Frighteningly, I was brand manager at Dolly at this time...the pressure of making money and increasing circulation above and beyond actually talking to the reader was first and paramount to everything else. I shed many many tears for ideas that were thrown away or for challenging the department heads or doing something just a bit differently. I lasted 6 months. I knew who you were and admired your sass, but I didn't know what was happening in the editor background. I'm personally thrilled to see your success, and am trying something myself also - jumping ship at 50. I'm scared but your musings have given me a chance to give it a go.
