@mamamia-user-482898552 yep, it's just completely out of touch with what is going on in our society right now.

laura__palmer May 16, 2024

@anonymous Exactly right. There is no room for opinions like this, we don't have to be "open-minded" about his closed-minded opinion about women's role in society. We are more than wives and mothers. And the women there deserved much more than to have to listen to this after working hard to complete a degree.

laura__palmer May 16, 2024

@yolandilr because this Catholic school accepts women into their program and they don't deserve to be reduced to wife and mother after working hard to complete a degree.

laura__palmer May 16, 2024

So a man who kicks a ball around for a living has the gall to tell women who just graduated with a degree from college that they should be homemakers. Brilliant. What a slap in the face for every woman there.

@yeahyepyes if you think those men are wearing one suit 50-100 times and don't have a whole wardrobe full of designer suits and clothing, then I've got news for you.

laura__palmer May 16, 2024

It's a bit "let them eat cake" and is a great example of how out of touch and elite our politicans are. And, as someone down below commented, if policitans are going to trot their partners out to gain political points, then they are going to be scrutinised. And it is poor optics when so many people are struggling to afford the basics, let alone a designer outfit.
There was no reason for her to attend, anyway.

@babble I don't think wanting to keep the name you were born with is "immature". And it is a feminist action because it goes against the patriarchal status quo of changing your name to your husband's name. Your birth name may come from your father's line, but changing the way things are takes time. In a way, you are as much gatekeeping what is feminist as the author is

I think it looks good and I didn't think "penis" until it was mentioned!

Men who breach AVOs should be treated like potential terrorists. Locked up for the safety of others.

laura__palmer May 12, 2024

@rush yep, same stuff, but it feels compounded with the addition of technology. There are so many conflicting messages out there, and so many influences and influencers, I just think we older generations, even the younger millennials, didn't have this level of instruction by tech into our young and impressionable selves. They are navigating a world that none of us have experience in and struggle to help them with.

@babble i always wanted to keep my dad’s family surname because its a fairly unique name with ties that go back to medieval England. I like being a part of that.

Oh, and Kim's little cardi is weird. Is she trying to cover up some new tattoo on her back or something?

laura__palmer May 8, 2024

My faves, in no particular order:

Sydney Sweeny, Gabrielle Union, Alia Bhatt, Lauren Sanchez, Lily Gladstone, Dan Levy, Usher and, of course, Lil Nas. I just love Lil Nas and his glorious style.

@ican'tthinkofone expulsion doesn’t mean they’d automatically go a state school…

laura__palmer May 5, 2024

This sort of stuff should mean instant expulsion. That is the only way that the message will get through. Men and boys, you will lose something if you act like this

laura__palmer May 5, 2024

@freepalestine Exactly. Where are the men? They love to sprout unhelpful things like "not all men", but where are they when their voices are actually needed to speak out about men's violence, aggression and entitlement?

laura__palmer May 5, 2024

@yeahyepyes I think it's better for men to not tell women how to feel about women being killed by men. It doesn't matter if things were "better" in the past, women are still being killed by men, one every four days, which is more than last year. What "we" are doing is not having a positive impact, obviously, if things are just slightly better than they were a few decades ago.
What are you, as a man, doing to combat male violence and entitlement? Other than coming on here and telling women how they should feel, rather than taking a step back and listening?

laura__palmer May 3, 2024

She has no obligation to be kind to him, he invaded her life. I hope he thinks twice before doing it again.  Probably not though. This is why women are picking bear.

laura__palmer May 3, 2024

@yeahyepyes can you not? I know you’re a man and I think you need to stop talking and start listening. I am so sick of men chiming in with unhelpful comments like this, and if you think you’re helping, I’ve got news for you. You are part of the problem. Domestic violence is deeply entrenched in Australian culture and while deaths might be less today, women are still being hurt and killed at alarming rates.

Nothing is going to change while men like you troll websites like this, undermining women’s lived experiences.
What is described in this article is appalling and it’s just not on at all to make any kind of excuse for it. I was speaking from my own experience as a teenager at school, and boys sound much more emboldened than when I was at school. So please, do us all a favour and stop chiming in with completely unhelpful comments and ask yourself, why are you even on this website.

@llamamia They have lost skills though. That is the reality. The longer you spend out of work, the less employable you become. Parenting is not a job, time management as a parent is not a job skill.
